The FA Cup prize money on offer is massive to Lordswood, says boss Jason Lillis

LORDSWOOD manager Jason Lillis says his players are feeling excited ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup tie against Hythe Town.

The Lords go into the Preliminary Round tie at Martyn Grove with a prospect of pulling off a shock going by Hythe’s league position.

Tim Dixon’s side are sitting second-from-bottom in the Ryman League Division One South table with one win and one draw from four games and face a potential banana skin against Lillis’ men who are in the top ten in the league below, the Southern Counties East Football League.

Lillis, who is keen to scoop the £1,925 prize money, said: “The FA Cup games always excites players, managers and obviously committee members because of the prize money involved.

“The prize money on offer to our club is massive because we survive hand-to-mouth, day-by-day, week-by-week.

“It’s been a frustrating start of the season because I have not had a full squad because of weddings, holidays, work commitments and suspensions, which has made team selection hard because players being unavailable.

“We need to be as strong as possible on Saturday because Hythe are a physical side with a lot of experience.

“We are the underdogs on Saturday because they are a league higher.

“Current form does not matter when it comes to The FA Cup because it seems to give everyone a lift.

“All we can do is prepare - which we have done – and hope that all my players put a shift in that at the end of the game they can honestly say they put everything into their performance and could have done no more and hopefully with all that we may just surprise a few.

“But whatever happens I am sure Tim and I will have a couple of shandy’s after the game.”
