THE BIG KICK OFF: Daish completes double signing on eve of new season

Friday 10th August 2007

Liam Daish, the manager of Ebbsfleet United, has completed the signing of two trialists, on the eve of their Blue Square Premier opener.

Phil Starkey, 19, and Chris McPhee, 24, have signed in time to be part of Daish’s squad for the opening match of the new season, against Northwich Victoria at Stonebridge Road tomorrow.

“Phil and Chris have done very well during our pre-season preparations,” Daish told www.ebbsfleetunited.co.uk.

“Both players are able to add to the depth we have in the squad and they bring versatility to our playing resources, which will be invaluable during the forthcoming season.”

Starkey, who most usually plays as a right-sided defender, who celebrates his 20th birthday next month, has been a professional at Coca-Cola Championship outfit, Crystal Palace.

Striker McPhee, meanwhile, made his Brighton & Hove Albion debut aged just 16 at Swansea City back in 1999, and played for Aldershot Town and Swindon Town on loan before joining Torquay United at the start of last season.

McPhee also featured in the Fleet’s last pre-season match at Eastbourne Borough, his home-town club.
