Thamesmead unveil Walker signing

Thursday 11th December 2008

THAMESMEAD TOWN manager Keith McMahon has acted swiftly to find a replacement for Rikki Cable, having signed Byron Walker from Ramsgate, writes Stephen McCartney.

Cable opted to drop down a division to sign for high-flying Kent League side Tunbridge Wells, but McMahon has signed slender striker/winger Walker, 22, today to partner Lewis Wood in attack for Saturday’s trip to Potters Bar Town.

McMahon, speaking to www.thamesmeadtownfc.co.uk, is pleased to have brought the former Chatham Town, Dover Athletic and Folkestone Invicta player to Bayliss Avenue.

He said: “He’s got lightening pace and will be really useful. I’m very pleased to have signed him.”

Potters Bar Town, meanwhile, go into the game with a new man at the helm, following Steve Browne’s decision to join Enfield Town as number two.

Browne, who had an ill-fated spell managing Dover Athletic during the Kent club’s financial troubles, has been replaced by assistant manager and coach Mickey Leslie.

Leslie has been appointed caretaker manager and has agreed initially to take temporary charge of the team for the forthcoming games against Thamesmead Town and Northwood, whilst the board at the Hertfordshire club consider their next move.
