Takaloo returns to Ramsgate

Monday 04th September 2006

Ramsgate are pleased to confirm tonight that they have re-signed former striker Mo Takaloo from Ryman League Division One South outfit Maidstone United on a one-year deal.

Confirming the news to the club’s website - www.ramsgate-fc.co.uk , Rams boss Jim Ward was delighted to bring the former Margate striker back to Southwood Stadium.

“I was very disappointed he left the club in the first place,” he said. “Mo was part of our winning championship team that won the Kent League back in the 2004-05 season.

“He’s another local player that has come back, and with Takaloo and Shaun Welford up front - they will be one of the best striking partners in the Ryman Premier Division.”

Takaloo will go straight into the sixteen-man squad to face Billericay Town on Tuesday night - the first game under the new floodlights at Southwood Stadium.

Meanwhile, Alan Walker, the joint-manager of Maidstone United, told his club website - www.maidstoneunited.co.uk the reasons behind Takaloo’s departure.

Takaloo was dropped to the substitutes bench for Sunday’s FA Cup preliminary round tie against Burgess Hill Town at Bourne Park, which the Stones won 2-1.

“We felt that Mo hadn’t been performing well this season, and although he is our top scorer, two of those (four goals) did come from penalties and he never looked as though he had adapted to the pace of the game at this level,” explained Walker.

“He has of course had injury problems so we told him on Sunday that he could no longer be our first choice striker with a fully fit Leroy Huggins and Simon Austin waiting in the wings.

“So we hoped that he would respond to that by regaining his fitness and fight to return to the starting line-up.

“Sadly we got the call today and he was wanting to leave the club and had received an offer to play back at Ramsgate.”

Walker, meanwhile, thanked the player for shooting the club out of the Kent League, adding: “He obviously goes with our very best wishes and our thanks for the massive contribution he made to getting Maidstone promotion to the Ryman League.

“He will certainly go down as a major star of the Stones recent history including the 40+ goals he scored last year which earned him the Golden Boot.

“So we thank him for all his hard work at the club and wish him well with his return to full fitness and every success at his new club.”

Ramsgate are also at home on Saturday, when East Thurrock United visit Southwood Stadium, whilst the Stones - without a midweek game - welcome Metropolitan Police to Sittingbourne's Bourne Park.
