Survivor Egan attracts media attention - EXCLUSIVE

Friday 22nd September 2006

A BBC film crew will be attending Reachfields Stadium tomorrow for the Kent League clash between Hythe Town and VCD Athletic, writes Stephen McCartney.

They are filming Hythe’s reserve team goalkeeper Paul Egan for the Survival programme to be screened next year.

They are following the former Margate goalkeeper as he recovers from a successful back operation in August for the BBC1 programme, which will show how people of different ages recover from illness.

The local goalkeeper aggravated a long-standing injury during a pre-season friendly whilst playing for Hythe Town, which ended up with him being rushed from Ashford’s William Harvey Hospital to Kings in London for an operation with just hours left to save him from permanent damage to his mobility.

The operation was, however, successful and the 22-year-old is now using just one crutch as he works to regain full mobility.
