Some of the lads' are not up to standard, admits Fisher joint-boss Martin Ford

FISHER joint-manger Martin Ford admits half of his team are not good enough to compete in the Kent League.

The Fish suffered their sixteenth league defeat of the season when they were crushed 6-0 by leaders Erith & Belvedere at Champion Hill last Saturday.

Fisher have claimed only two wins and four draws from their 22 league games this season and are one point clear of basement side Sevenoaks Town.

Fisher have lost their last five games, scoring only one goal and shipping in thirteen since their 1-0 home win over Sevenoaks Town on 26 January.

They have ten league games left to play this season and travel to eighth-placed Lordswood on Saturday.

Jason Lillis’ side reached the Kent Senior Trophy Final last weekend, beating Deal Town in the semi-finals, but they face a mountain to climb to reach the Macron Kent League Cup Final after going down to a 3-0 defeat at Erith & Belvedere in the first leg of the semi-finals last night.

Reflecting on last week’s defeat to Micky Collins’ Deres', Ford told www.fisherfc.co.uk: “No excuses. We were totally outclassed for the opening 45 minutes and although we gave it a go and performed a lot better in the second half, the damage was already done.

“Fifty percent of the side are good enough to compete at this level but it is obvious that some of the lads are not up to this standard and although we are looking to bring in new faces all the time we are very keen to give some of our better youth team players a chance.”

Ford added: “In saying that myself and Bill (Walton), we must be fair to the youth teams and use some of them sparingly over the remainder of the season.

“The fixtures are not getting any easier and when you are trying to find the right team format and introduce new players this can sometimes work against you, like Saturday, when you come up against more settled and experienced sides.

“By no means are we feeling sorry for ourselves, in fact, it’s quite the opposite.

“The challenge ahead now is to try and win as many games as possible, from now to the end of the season, while at the same time we try to push the club on to the next level.”
