Slade Green 0-4 Whitstable Town - Whitstable move one step closer to Ryman

After the euphoria of winning the Kent Senior Trophy against Bearsted, the title chasing Reds travelled to lowly Slade Green on Tuesday looking to edge a step closer to the Kent League title, writes Mark Wyver.

With defender Rob Thomas getting injured in the warm up, Jackson Ohakam came back into the back four whilst after both suffering long term injuries Steve Marshall and Sam Prett returned to the front line.

Whitstable Town attacked from the start with in form wingers Micky Lane and Marlon Button both causing the home full backs problems.

It was, however, the home side who had the best chance early on when John Paul McKey headed over from a Green corner.

Whitstable left back Tom Parker put in a couple of good crosses for the Reds which caused the home side some panic without testing highly rated keeper James Tedder.

Veteran striker Marshall opened the scoring for Whitstable on 37 minutes as he headed home from close range following a corner.

With Slade Green losing their discipline it was only ten minutes later before Alex Hossick extended the lead with another spectacular strike after some excellent build up play in the midfield.

Tommy Martin struck the Green crossbar and Tedder made a great save from Lane after some great work from substitute Stuart King.

The Reds completed the scoring when substitute Michael Adcock scored from close range following a cross from Gary Sayer which found its way to the far post.

A good night's work from Marc Seager's men puts them in good stead for Saturday's crunch home game with VCD Athletic in as Whitstable Town look to win their first ever Kent League title in their long history.
