Sittingbourne see the light!

Thursday 14th September 2006
Sittingbourne’s Ryman League Division One South derby against Ashford Town next Tuesday night could have been postponed due to issues with the floodlights at Bourne Park, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Brickies moved two floodlight pylons from their training pitch to the far end of their ground during the close season, but although they were bright enough they had to be re-aligned after failing a Ryman League inspection.

A club spokesperson said: “The floodlights had to be re-aligned as they had failed the league inspection because although bright enough, the light wasn’t even.

“The work had to be carried out by Tuesday (12 September) or our next home evening fixture was going to have to be held at another ground.

“Andy Spice (chairman) did ask the League for a little more time and had asked if the fixture could be reversed (which Ashford Town FC agreed to) but the Ryman League would not have it, preferring that we play at another ground, on another ground.”

Sittingbourne welcome Sussex County League side Hassocks to Bourne Park on Saturday (3pm) in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.
