Sittingbourne adapt to life in the Ryman League - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Friday 13th October 2006

Sittingbourne boss Steve Lovell is pleased with the way things are going this season, and welcome second from bottom side Corinthian Casuals to Bourne Park tomorrow, before travelling to Metropolitan Police, who are surprisingly in the bottom six, next Tuesday, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Bourne Park outfit are three games unbeaten and are in sixth place in the Ryman League Division One South table - just six points behind the leaders.

“It’s been a good start,” Lovell said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk on the eve of the game.

“We had a good few wins in the league as well as the cups. The boys are playing quite well.

“We’re at home tomorrow, obviously another league game to continue our good start to the season and we need to get three points from.”

But the Welshman admitted to not knowing too much about the amateur side from Tolworth.

“They’re quite a young side, very enthusiastic and fit. It will be quite a tough challenge,” he said.

Lovell’s club have just played seven games in the Ryman League, but he compared the league to the Southern League, adding: “I definitely think the Ryman League is more of a footballing league.

“Saying that Whyteleafe on Tuesday were very physical but we matched them very well.”

Lovell, though, is fully focused for tomorrow’s game, and isn’t even thinking about their trip to Imber Court next Saturday.

He said: “This time of the season you can’t think of anything like that, apart from the next game.”

Steve Searle comes in for Clint Gooding, who begins his three match suspension tomorrow, and Jon Neal is close to fitness.

But James Campbell (calf) and Tristian Knowles (knee) are both ruled out.
