Signing Strouts is a big coup for Whitstable Town, hails Seager - EXCLUSIVE

Sunday 26th November 2006

Marc Seager, the manager of unbeaten Kent League side Whitstable Town, has made his biggest signing to date at the Belmont by enticing Jimmy Strouts to the promotion chasing club, writes Stephen McCartney.

The 35-year-old midfielder, who lives in Canterbury, has vast experience having played in the Conference with Dover Athletic and captained Maidstone United to the Kent League double last season and was released by the Stones a couple of weeks ago.

And Seager, whose side are six points behind top spot in third place in the Kent League table after ten games, but have three games in hand over leaders Thamesmead Town, face a tough test next Saturday when they travel to VCD Athletic.

“Not a bad signing is it?’” said a delighted Seager when he unveiled his star signing EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk tonight.

“It’s a great signing for the club. Jimmy has been around, an experienced player whose played at the highest level and it shows our intentions and shows the position we’re in very seriously.

“The name Jimmy Strouts is a big player and a player for the big occasion. I’ve got a young squad and we’re struggling for injuries and the best time to sign players is when your doing well. It’s a great signing for Whitstable Town.”

Seager was delighted that the midfielder, a fans favourite at all of his clubs for his honest endeavour and profesionalism, chose Whitstable Town.

“We knew he was available,” Seager said. “Me and Jimmy went to school together and played together and he let me know he was leaving Maidstone and all I could do was have a chat with him and sell him the club.

“The biggest thing with Jim is that people think because he was at Maidstone they think he was on a lot of money but I think Jim wants to enjoy his football.

“He thinks we are a very good footballing side, he wants us to get promoted and wants to help us do that.

"Jimmy is a true professional and I don't know the ins and outs why he left Maidstone but Jimmy wanted to see his career out at Maidstone so hopefully he'll do that with us.

“To be honest I’m always looking for players to improve my side. Alex Hossick is suspended for another three games. Alex has been fantastic for us this season.

“For me to sign Jimmy Strouts on a small budget is a big coup for us.”
