Signing Pursglove shows how ambitious we are, says O'Boyle
The 23-year-old prolific striker sealed a move from Park View Road to Bayliss Avenue last Thursday, following a seven-day approach submitted by O’Boyle.
Although O’Boyle has ruled out his side’s chances of winning the Bulmers Cider Kent League title this term, he feels that the former Gravesend & Northfleet, Ashford Town and Hythe Town striker will be a big part of his plans.
“I’ve seen him play a lot this season and every time I’ve seen him play he’s impressed me,” O’Boyle told www.kentishfootball.co.uk this morning.
“When the opportunity came up, we spoke to him and he agreed (to sign) and the club is delighted with the signing.”
When asked how he’s persuaded the prolific striker to switch Erith clubs, O’Boyle, who also revealed the striker has turned down a couple of offers from Ryman League clubs, replied, “He heard from a few boys what we’re doing down at the club and we run it professionally. We told him if he’s playing well he will play.
“He’s up there on a golden boot (with 20 goals for Erith & Belvedere) and we rate him highly and if he plays regularly he will score a lot of goals.”
O’Boyle has guided the Dockers to third place in the table and as previous manager Mark Tompkins ended his reign in fifth place last year, this has been a progressive season this term.
“We feel now we’ve got a really decent squad,” said the former Thamesmead Town reserve boss. “When I took over just before the season started, we brought in a lot of players since then and we feel that we have been building our team during the course of the season, unlike every other side in the league, who had their squad mapped out in pre-season.
“We’ve been building as the season has gone on and we’re over the moon with our progression and we feel we can only get better now.
“We’re happy with our squad and with Aiden Pursglove coming in and Chris Hubbard coming in last week, we feel like we’ve got players and cover in every position and we’ve got decent players at the club now.”
O’Bpyle added, “With Aiden Pursglove, we feel that’s a statement. A few clubs have been after him and it just shows our ambitions.”
