Signing experienced players is difficult, admits Slade Green boss
SLADE GREEN boss Martin Ford says he is pleased with the attitude of his players, although he admits that his honeymoon period is now over and that bringing in experienced players is proving a hard nut to crack, writes Stephen McCartney.
Ford took over the reigns at The Small Glen club in early January, and says he is delighted with the commitment from the players at the Bulmers Cider Kent League club.
Looking forward to Tuesday night’s trip to Winch’s Field to play Norton Sports, Ford, speaking to the club’s website, said, “The honeymoon period for the players at Slade Green is now over and although I have been generally pleased with the quality of player at the club, their attitude and commitment, I feel there is room for improvement.
“We had a good chat (recently) and hopefully the lads took on board what was said.
“I have now had a good look at them after the first three games, which I promised, we are not far away from being a good side.
“But I need to get some more confidence into them, get them doing the right things all over the park and making us harder to break down.
“It seems that every time we concede a goal, we spend the next ten minutes feeling sorry for ourselves.
“In saying that, I believe in the bunch of players I have at my disposal and although I would like to bring in a few experienced players to go alongside the youngsters, at the moment, this is proving more difficult than I thought.”
Slade Green, with 18 points from 17 games (5 wins and 3 draws), are presently sitting in the bottom four and travel to play Norton Sports, who are one place higher, with 19 points from 17 games (5 wins and 3 draws).
