Sheppey United assistant manager Marcel Nimani unveils the clubs first three summer signings
SHEPPEY UNITED assistant manager Marcel Nimani has revealed that the club has made their first three summer signings.
Ernie Batten and Nimani welcomed back the team last Saturday as the club begin preparation for the upcoming friendly tournament that also involves Chatham Town, Lordswood, Rochester United, Punjab United.
Sheppey United’s home games during the tournament will be played at Chatham Town’s Maidstone Road ground as Holm Park is reverting into a 3G playing surface.
Fellow Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division side Punjab United are their first visitors next Tuesday, 18 May. The competition has been arranged between the competing clubs and is not a League competition.
“We have had a near enough full squad return and the likes of Billy Bennett, Danny Leonard, Harrison Carnegie and others are eagerly waiting for the Tuesday night clash with Punjab,” Nimani told the club website.
“Whilst it is very early to talk about recruitment and departures, we have added a few new faces to the squad, which includes a couple of youngsters from the island, as well as three experienced Isthmian League players in Ben Wilson (Ramsgate) Danny Smith (Cray Valley), both having won this league already with Sevenoaks and Cray Valley, as well as Helge Orome from Whyteleafe.
“I am sure as the tournament goes on and pre-season begins, a few players will come and go but I am confident the nucleus of the squad will remain.”
Smith operates as a left-back, Wilson is a versatile player who can play in defence or midfield while Orome is a centre-half.
