Razor Powell will cut it at Maidstone, insists Walker

Maidstone United have acted quickly to find a replacement for Mo Takaloo, by swooping for Tonbridge Angels’ Ray Powell today.

Powell, who scooped the supporters player of the year award at Tonbridge Angels last season, can play at either right-back or as a striker.

Stones joint-boss Alan Walker revealed the former Fisher Athletic player will be drafted into their squad for the game against Metropolitan Police at Bourne Park on Saturday.

But Powell then starts a three match ban after being sent off for a bad foul on Ramsgate goalkeeper Chris May on August Bank Holiday Monday, and sits out next Tuesday night's mouth-watering Westview Cup second round clash against his former club at the Betterview Longmead Stadium.

Walker told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk that he was pleased to sign another player from their local rivals.

He said: “He’s a tenacious and very quick player who has many similarities to Lynden Rowland in terms of his work rate and ability to give defenders a hard time.”

“He’s a player we’ve been chasing for some time and we’re delighted that he has finally decided that he has finally decided to join us,” said Walker.

“I know Tonbridge are disappointed that he can no longer play for them.

“If fans have any doubts about the release of Mo Takaloo, then this lad will very soon win the fans over with his ability.”
