Hopefully we will push on to at least a play-off position, says Ramsgate joint-boss Danny Ward

RAMSGATE joint-manager Danny Ward says he is searching for more consistency this season.

The Rams finished in a disappointing 12th place in the Ryman League Division One South table last season and host Guernsey at Southwood Stadium at one o’clock this afternoon.

The Green Lions arrive in Kent having finished one place below the Rams.

“Thankfully pre-season is now finished, as you know how much I dislike it, but it is an ends to a means getting people fit,” said Ward.

“We managed to achieve a disappointing finish of 12th last season, even thought it was a massive improvement on where Ramsgate finished the season before.

“Some of the football we played we deserved to be near to the top of the table, but it was consistency that let us down.

“We have signed two new players in George Crimmen and Peter Wedgeworth, who will improve our squad and we have also re-signed Tom Chapman and Macauley Murray who have been away travelling for a year.  We have also signed Aaron Millbank after his release by Gillingham.”

Looking ahead to today’s opening league game, Ward said: “Today’s match is a very hard start with the visit of Guernsey FC, but we will be as normal trying to win the three points and trying to get off to the best start possible.

“This league will be very difficult this season with lots of other teams spending absolute fortunes on players for this level, but I think we have a decent squad with more strength in depth, and hopefully we will push on to at least a play-off position.”
