Striker Rory Smith returns to Ramsgate

Thursday 04th June 2020

RAMSGATE boss Matt Longhurst says he brought striker Rory Smith back to Southwood Stadium.

Smith, 21, departed the club to join Australian based side Redlands United in November 2019 but has opted to return to the Isthmian League South East Division club despite a number of offers from other clubs.

“Rory is a player who I’ve seen play for Ramsgate for a number of years against some of my previous teams and he’s always been a difficult opponent,” Longhurst told the club website.

“I really do believe he’s one of the most exciting talents in the league. I’m obviously very pleased that he’s another local lad as well.

“Rory has been playing over in Australia for a few months and I hope it was a great experience for him.

“He’s had a number of different offers as well, of course, but after a few weeks of discussions, I’m pleased he’s chosen us.

“To be able to bring somebody in of Rory’s calibre is great news for us. He fits the bill perfectly.”
