We have had a good start and the boys have settled well in the league and every week has been a test, says Punjab United boss Jugjit Sian

PUNJAB UNITED boss Jugjit Sian says he will be making changes to his team for their Southern Counties East Football League Challenge Cup debut at Stansfeld on Tuesday night.

The Gravesend based outfit remain top of the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table with 25 points on the board from their opening 10 league outings, three points clear of K Sports, who have a game in hand.

Punjab United beat Bridon Ropes 2-1 yesterday.

“It was a really competitive game, both sides went for it.  Bridon started brighter than us and scored within five minutes, which was a good goal to be fair,” said Sian.

“But we responded great, started to play the way we should and got a well-deserved equaliser through George Goodwin.

“William Johnson-Cole and Jeffery Gyamfi had been excellent all game and continued to take on their full-backs at every opportunity and the second goal came from that.

“We held on and the last 10 minutes we were under pressure but the boys dug in and held out for the win. It wasn’t our best but a good three points, which keeps us top.”

Sian takes his side to Chislehurst to play a Stansfeld side in 12th place in the First Division table, having collected 14 points from nine games and are on the back of a 5-2 home win over second-from-bottom side Crockenhill yesterday.

“Looking forward to the midweek cup game at Stansfeld,” said Sian.

“We will be giving a few of the boys who haven’t had much game time a full game to get their fitness in and keep the competition in the suad competitive.

“We know it will be tough at Stansfeld. I expect it to be a good game and our boys will need to be at their best to get a result.”

Punjab United then host third-placed Snodland Town next Saturday.  They are only three points behind them and have 13-goal striker Dave Sherwood in their ranks.

“We have a big game on Saturday at home to Snodland. They are a good side and looking forward to playing them," added Sian.

“We have had a good start and the boys have settled well in the league and every week has been a test.”
