Phoenix Sports unveil Keith McMahon as their new manager

Tuesday 21st May 2024

PHOENIX SPORTS have appointed Keith McMahon as their new manager.

Steve O’Boyle stepped down from the role after revealing he will be working with a reduced budget next season, after keeping the club in the Isthmian League South East Division by finishing in sixteenth-place (bottom five).

McMahon replaced Dean Bowey as O’Boyle’s assistant manager on 2 October 2023 but stepped down from the role on 24 November.

“The club received 29 applications for the position, which were shortlisted to seven and the interview process took place over the weekend,” said a club statement.

“With so many quality applicants this was far from an easy decision but, for many different reasons, the club committee felt that all in all Keith came out as their first choice for the position.

“Keith is well known to the club and has a wealth of knowledge and experience at this level.

“All of the Phoenix board and committee are very keen and enthusiastic to welcome Keith to the club in his new role.”

Phoenix Sports picked up 38 points from as many games and Beckenham Town (29) and Erith & Belvedere (26) finished beneath the dotted line that O'Boyle was so keen to keep above.

Beckenham Town were handed a reprieve from relegation and Erith & Belvedere return to the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division after just one season back in the eighth-tier.
