Phoenix Sports: Manager Paul Bryon announces changes to his backroom team

Wednesday 05th May 2021

PHOENIX SPORTS manager Paul Bryon has made some changes to his backroom team at the Isthmian League South East Division club.

“Tony Rossiter has decided to step down from his role as assistant manager,” Bryon told the club website.

“Tony has helped me massively over the last few years and was a very busy man as he also carried out goalkeeping coaching duties alongside his main role too.

“His input in every way has aided to Phoenix maintaining its place as a regular at this level of football and he will be missed by myself and the players alike.”

Ross Baker and Danny Joy – who were both joint-managers of Southern Counties East Football League First Division side Sporting Club Thamesmead  - lasting only 18 games before parting company with the Step Six club in November 2016 – will join Bryon and Joe Ford as part of the first-team set-up.

They will both be assistant managers with Byron Beard joining as coach and Paul Daily has been appointed the clubs new goalkeeper coach.

Emily Sawyer retains her role as first-team physio.

“Ross and Danny are stepping up from the under 23s and are both Phoenix people.  This continues to show the desire of the club to promote from within with those that understand our ethos and culture,” added Bryon.

Alan Foreman, who was part of the first-team management set-up, has agreed to manage the under 23’s next season.

“Alan will take on the position of manager with Simon Green and Jason Ash as his coaches, plus Tony Cornish as the goalkeeping coach,” added Bryon.

“These four have worked well together as an under 18’s management team and I have no doubt they will be a success at the next level.

“Once again, this demonstrates Phoenix Sports’ desire to develop and grow individuals in all roles across the club.

“Billy and Mark Sullivan have decided to spend their Saturday’s doing other things, following West Ham being one of them but more importantly Billy has A levels to focus on.

“I cannot thank these two enough for the time and effort they have put in for Phoenix.  Describing them as kit men is not enough as they have been so much more than that.”

The club, based at Mayplace Road East in Barnehurst, begin the search for a new kit man and should apply by email to Paul.Bryon@virocom.co.uk.

The 2020-21 Isthmian League campaign gets underway on Saturday 14 August 2021.
