I have great belief in the squad and when we get it right we can be competitive against any team in the league, says Phoenix Sports boss Paul Bryon

PHOENIX SPORTS manager Paul Bryon says he is expecting a tough game at Whyteleafe tomorrow.

The club are sitting in fifth-place in the Isthmian League South East Division table, having banked five wins from their nine games.

Phoenix Sports were knocked out of The FA Trophy by Kings Langley, who claimed a 5-3 win in the First Qualifying Round last weekend.

“We had a FA Trophy game last week against Kings Langley from Step Three and came away disappointed that we got nothing from the game,” said Bryon.

“We defended naively as a team at times and having had the lead twice, should have done better.  We have discussed that this week and worked on defending as a unit.”

Bryon takes his side to Whyteleafe tomorrow, a side that sits in 12th place in the table with 10 points from six games.

“We’re looking forward to being back in league action after only two league games in October,” said Bryon.

“We have a very difficult game away at Whyteleafe.  They are always strong and technically decent. It’s a difficult place to go but believe we are in good shape to make a contest of it.

“They are attack-minded and work hard for each other, they have a prominent goal scorer (Ronald Sobowale) who has 14 goals already this season and we will have to defend well to get anything out of the game, but we know we have goals in us from all different positions so these stats should make for an entertaining game.

“I have great belief in the squad and when we get it right we can be competitive against any team in the league.  The key is getting it right as often as possible and being consistent.”

Phoenix Sports then travel to Isthmian League Premier Division side Margate in the Kent Senior Cup First Round on Tuesday, 5 November.

“Annoyingly, we have no fixture next Saturday and a very difficult trip away to Margate on Tuesday, which brings its own logistical problems getting everyone there in time from work for decent preparation,” added Bryon.
