Everyone who knows the league is aware how big a game for us and them this is, says Phoenix Sports boss Paul Bryon

PHOENIX SPORTS boss Paul Bryon says he knows the importance of the Battle of Woodside on Easter Monday.

Phoenix have home advantage over VCD Athletic, who cross Woodside Road for a Bostik South game.

Phoenix Sports are in ninth-place in the table with 62 points from 41 games and are 14 points adrift of the play-offs with five league outings left to play.

Keith McMahon’s Vickers, meanwhile, have been in the bottom half of the table all season and play their neighbours sitting in seventeenth-place in the table with 44 points from 40 games.

Phoenix came away from Hastings United with a 1-1 draw on Saturday, courtesy of Jeff Duah-Kessie’s fourteenth-goal for the club.

VCD Athletic went down to a 3-2 home defeat to Herne Bay, throwing away a 2-0 lead inside the opening 38 minutes, with Alfie Cue scoring his sixth goal for the club and Jonathan Adebayo’s maiden goal.

“Everyone who knows the league is aware how big a game for us and them this is,” insisted Bryon.

“We obviously know Keith McMahon and Gary Rump (their owner) well and as they are literally 500 yards away, it’s one our committee and supporters state as a must-win!

“For me, it’s just three points and another game but we must take into account the feelings of the support as they travel with us where ever we go and we see this of a way of saying thank you to them.

“It’s always hard having two games in three days and our squad is a little depleted already but as I have said before with the excellent reserve and youth set-up at Phoenix we have a good pool of players to bring in, albeit inexperienced.

“It means I don’t have to try and find some new signings for the remainder of the season and helps that they understand the club.”

Bryon added: “I am pleased with the team’s attitude and how they have turned it around after a bad run of results.  All we can do is keep going and fight for every point and see where it leaves us.”
