Pennock: Midweek cup win over Dartford was a nice little boost

Thursday 09th November 2006

Welling United boss Adrian Pennock wants his side to emulate their midweek Kent Senior Cup win when Dorchester Town visit Park View Road on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney

The Wings fielded a strong side to defeat their Ryman League Division One South neighbours Dartford 3-0 in the first round of the Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Despite making nine changes to the side that were thumped 4-0 at Havant & Waterlooville last weekend, goals from Edusei Akwasi (2) and John Guest - their first for the club - saw the Wings reach the last eight of the county cup.

But Pennock hopes his side can defeat Dorchester Town to get their Nationwide Conference South campaign back on track after the Hawks ended their six league game unbeaten run.

“Dorchester got their first win for a while on Saturday so it will be a difficult game,” Pennock told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“It always is against Dorchester. They’ve got some strong players, always fit and organised but we want to get back to winning ways as soon as possible in the league.

“Disappointed last week but we had a lot of key players out to be fair and it did show but after our win over Dartford it’s a nice little boost for everybody.”

Guest, the former Folkestone Invicta defender, is expected to shake off his hamstring injury that he picked up in midweek, and Awasi and Leon Solomon are also expected to be fit after picking up knocks against the Darts.
