Pennock enjoys competition for places

Thursday 31st August 2006

After Welling United’s 2-1 defeat to Farnborough Town on Bank Holiday Monday, the Wings travel to Salisbury City on Friday evening.

Boss Adrian Pennock has a fully fit squad to choose from for the trip to Wiltshire.

Keith Rowland is back in contention for a place in the squad after returning from injury. The only doubt is over Che Stadhart who picked up a calf injury.

Summer trialist Ellis Green has been the surprise player for the Wings so far this season.

Green, who was with Beckenham Town last year has bagged two goals in the last two games, has already impressed Pennock.

"I was very pleased with his performance against Yeading; especially considering it was his first start for the club. He got a lot of balls into the box; he was exciting and showed a lot of Pace,” he told www.wellingunited.com

“I was really pleased he scored at the end against Yeading he thoroughly deserved it. I hope that will start him off and he will have a good career with the club."

The Wings signed Martin Carthy before the game against Yeading, which now means Pennock has a squad of over 20 players.

"It’s brilliant, exactly what we want, and from the goalkeeper all the way to the front Players we have competition."

However, the manager stressed that the players must perform to keep their place in the squad.

He added: "The players have got to show they want to keep their shirt and keep their place in the starting 11. Otherwise, there are people breathing down their necks to take their place, which is good for me."
