Our latest signings will add creativity and flair, says Francis
The Wands – in their 150th anniversary season – have today added left-sided midfielder, Danny Phillips and striker Laurent Hamici to their ranks, having ended last season with Sutton United and Maldon Town respectively.
Phillips scored 5 goals in 57 appearances for the Wands’ Ryman Premier League rivals Sutton United and has also featured for Weymouth in the Conference.
Hamici, meanwhile, has also turned out for Sutton United, and his previous clubs include Dulwich Hamlet and Margate. The striker played under former Cray Wanderers goalkeeper Glen Knight at Maldon Town.
“Danny Phillips played all last year for Sutton, probably their most exciting forward player,” Francis told www.kentishfootball.co.uk this morning.
“I knew him from his time at Charlton, he’s very tricky, pacy, left-sided midfield player or forward - a very talented lad.”
His former manager at Sutton United, Paul Doswell told www.suttonunited.net: “He’s a good player, but I felt he didn’t score enough goals and we didn’t really get enough of an end product for a player in his position.
Speaking about Hamici, Francis added: “Laurent is a centre forward, a goalscorer. Every club he’s played for he’s scored goals. He finished last season at Maldon, but he’s been to Dulwich and then he went to Sutton and I believe he played for Margate as well.
“We’re very pleased to have these two players on board because the side’s full of solid footballers, we just needed a bit of creativity and flare and we’re very pleased to have signed them.”
Six days ago, Francis revealed that Tyrone Sterling, who will be playing at left-back due to Colin Luckett’s retirement, has re-signed for the club, having left Hastings United.
Allan McLeod (Tooting & Mitcham United), Chris Saunders (Maidstone United) and Rhys Coleman (Whyteleafe) have also joined the Hayes Lane based club.
Meanwhile, a Kent club looks favourite to land former Dover Athletic playmaking midfielder Alan Pouton, following his release from the Gander Green Lane club.
Doswell added: “He was beginning to really struggle with the travelling up from his home in Maidstone towards the end of the season, so it’s probably best for him to try and find a club nearer there.”
