On his day Loick Pires is a match-winner, says Welling United boss Jamie Day

WELLING UNITED manager Jamie Day is pleased to confirm the return of forward Loick Pires to Park View Road after a 12-month absence last night.

The former Leyton Orient striker departed Welling United for an undisclosed fee to Woking 12 months ago after the Surrey side clinched the Conference South title and the Wings were beaten by Dartford in the play-off final.

Day told www.pitchero.com/clubs/wellingutd: ”On his day, Loick is a match-winner. He scored one goal in every three games when he was here before and I felt he got better as time went on.

“He is a player I enjoyed working with and for whatever reason it didn’t work out for him last season.

“If I can get him to the levels I believe he is capable of, then he can score goals and change games for us.”

Pires now re-joins the Kent club in the Conference Premier, having featured at that level 23 times for Woking during the 2012/13 season, scoring against Barrow and Stockport County.

He also spent time on loan at Boreham Wood, playing against the Wings twice in the league last season.

Pires made more than 60 appearances for Welling United over two seasons and scored more than 20 goals – many of them spectacular in fashion which led him to win the goal of the season award twice.

He also won the players’ player-of-the-year honour in his last campaign at Park View Road.
