Now let's go and win the title, says Hume - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Monday 23rd April 2007

Maidstone United’s joint-manager Lloyd Hume has challenged his side to collect the four points they need to clinch promotion into the Ryman Premier League, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Division One South leaders play their game in hand at Ashford Town tomorrow night before ending their campaign with a trip to Walton Casuals on Saturday.

And the Stones need just four points to emulate Ramsgate’s achievement last season on winning back-to-back titles to climb from the Kent League into the Ryman Premier League in the space of two years.

“We need four points - but if we win tomorrow it really is ours,” expectant Hume said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk tonight.

“It’s going to be really tough,” he warned. “I said ages ago to yourself that our toughest games would be against Sittingbourne, Chatham and Ashford, and that’s how it’s proved.

“But all our lads are aware of our situation - it’s a massive game to go on and win the title.”

With his side so close to the finishing line, Hume admitted his players need no motivation for tomorrow night’s Homeland’s clash.

He said: “We’ll talk to them about all the work they’ve done, and what they need to do (to win the league) - it won’t take much motivating.”

Hume paid tribute to supporters’ player of the year, Nathan Paul.

The former Beckenham Town full-back recovered from a shocking knife attack during the close season to become the club’s star performer this term.

Hume added: “He’s done fantastically well this season and to be honest it’s thoroughly deserved because over the season he’s been so consistent.”
