Nolan interested in Lordswood vacancy - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Friday 04th May 2007

Lordswood are expected to name their new manager at an executive committee meeting next week, following the resignation of Paul Piggott last Sunday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Piggott has stepped down from his role at North Dane Way after three years in charge, citing that “he felt he had taken the club as far as he could.”

Despite finishing rock bottom of the Kent League during his first full season in charge, Piggott steered the Medway club to their highest ever position - eighth place - in his next season.

But Piggott decided to step down a day after their 4-1 defeat at Beckenham Town on the last day of this season, having finished in the bottom five.

Lordswood’s club secretary, Mr Steve Lewis, revealed EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk  that there is plenty of interest in the job.

“The club consider Paul has done a good job at the club and last season produced our best ever finish in the Kent League,” he said.

“The club executive committee are meeting next week to agree how we should move things forward, but will not be rushed into making a decision.”

Former Sittingbourne manager Steve Nolan, who was relieved off his duties by Dover Athletic yesterday, has confirmed his interest in the vacancy, according to Mr Lewis.

The secretary said: “The backroom team have expressed an interest in staying with the club and Steve Nolan has confirmed he would like the managers job.

“We have already been approached by a number of outside candidates along with some inside candidates and we’ll need to consider carefully everyone who wishes to be considered.”

Explaining the role, Mr Lewis said: “The first team manager is responsible for the structure of the senior sides and will have influence over the Kent youth section.”

And he added: “Lordswood would like to thank Paul and his family for his commitment and loyalty over the past three and a half years.

“He has always given everything and has stood by the club through some difficult times.

“He should be proud of what he achieved both as a player and manager with the club.”
