New signing is a massive boost for us going into a really important weekend, says Micky Collins

Thursday 28th March 2013
ERITH & BELVEDERE manager Micky Collins has today pulled off a transfer coup by bringing in midfielder Inderjeet Aujla from Ryman Premier League leaders Whitehawk.

The Bradford-born Indian, 25, formerly of Bradford City, Chester City, Hickley United, Guiseley, Frickley Athletic and Montegnee (Belgium), has relocated in the area and Collins has enticed him to drop down two levels to help the club win the Kent Hurlimann Football League title next month.

”Indy has relocated South,” said Collins.  “It hasn’t worked out for him at Whitehawk and through a mutual friend we discussed his future during the week and he has decided to join us at The Deres for the remainder of the season, which has really strengthened our squad.

”I know he can play a much higher level, but it’s a massive boost for us going into a really important weekend of football.

”I’m sure club's will be down watching him and looking to secure his services for next season.”

The Deres lead the Kent League table by four points from VCD Athletic, having collected seventeen wins and four draws from their 22 league outings.

They face an exciting Easter campaign, with a trip to fourth-placed Erith Town on Easter Saturday, before welcoming VCD Athletic to Park View Road on Easter Monday in a top-of-the-table showdown.

Collins said: “This weekend will be a tough ask with two local derbies.  The League title won’t be decided but it will certainly give an indication of who has the ascendancy.

”We will certainly have to rotate our squad to make sure everyone’s fresh for both games.”

Erith & Belvedere will face Corinthian in the Macron Kent League Cup Final on Bank Holiday Monday, 6 May, at a venue still to be decided by the League.

The Deres lost their second-leg 1-0 at Lordswood in midweek, but went through 3-1 on aggregate, whilst Corinthian eased past Deal Town 8-0 on aggregate.

Corinthian reached the final for the first time last season, but lost to VCD Athletic in the final at Cray Valley’s ground at Badgers Sports Ground in Eltham.

Collins added: ”It has been a good week for us having secured a League Cup Final spot even though we haven’t been playing that well in the past few games. We will certainly be looking for a positive weekend.”

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Kent League, Gerry Cox confirmed yesterday morning that he has resigned as the manager and club secretary of Greenwich Borough.

Cox, who has declined requests for press interviews this season, issued a brief statement by text message.

He said: ”I have resigned as first team manager and club secretary of Greenwich Borough FC.  I haven’t got a clue who’s going to do my jobs.”

The club’s three-year lease at Holmesdale’s Oakley Road ground expires at the end of the season and the club’s future remain uncertain at the moment, especially as Eltham-based Cray Valley (Paper Mills) confirmed last week that they haven’t held negotiations with Greenwich Borough about a groundshare.

When asked about the club’s future, Cox replied, “Not sure, although I haven’t been told anything by (chairman) Devon Hanson.

”I have been told by others that John Cumberbatch has the funds in place to take the club forward.

”This was all done behind my back.  When the dust settles, I’ll explain.”

But where the club will play their home games and in what league, however, still remains a mystery.
