New Faversham boss Copley makes double transfer swoop

Sunday 11th March 2007

Paul Copley has made his first signings as Faversham Town caretaker boss with Ian Pulman and Luke Williams joining from Margate.

Striker Pulman, 22, and centre-half Williams, 21, put pen to paper at Salters Lane on Saturday afternoon and were in the crowd as the Lilywhites drew 1-1 with Kent League leaders Whitstable Town at The Belmont.

Copley swooped for the childhood pals after midweek talks with Robin Trott who is manager of the Ryman League Premier Division side.

Former Welling United defender Copley, who moved into the hot-seat late on Monday night, revealed to www.favershamtownfc.co.uk : "I am absolutely thrilled to bring Ian and Luke to the football club.

"I'm friends with Robin down at Margate from my days at Welling and I'm glad we could do a deal.

"These are two areas where I felt we needed to strengthen and I am delighted to bring in two quality players just four days after taking the job.

"The lads were ineligible for the Whitstable game but joined us in the dressing room after meeting the rest of the lads back at Salters Lane.

"They will come into the squad for the game against Tunbridge Wells on Wednesday night so hopefully we'll have a chance to see what they can do."

Pulman and Williams, who played football together as teenagers at Hartsdown Technology College, are looking forward to making a big impact in the Kent League.

Hitman Pulman arrives at Salters Lane having spent seven years at Chelsea culminating in 18 months as a professional under former Stamford Bridge boss Claudio Ranieri.

Pulman, who also had a short spell at Gillingham, said: "I must admit, I don't know alot about the club other than they are back in the Kent League after folding a couple of years back.

"But I was impressed by what Copes has to say and I'm looking forward to the chance of scoring some goals and pushing the club back up the table."

Williams came through the youth system at Margate and joins Faversham Town from the Hartsdown Park club having had spells with Ramsgate and Deal Town.

He said: "It's a great opportunity to play first-team football and help Faversham Town in any way I can."
