New Ashford owner set to announce "three new quality" signings in midweek
Resurgent Kent club Ashford Town are expecting to unveil more new signings on Wednesday, writes Stephen McCartney.
New boss Clive Walker has already brought in Lee Spiller, Nick Humphrey and Anthony Browne from his former club Dover Athletic, and striker Rob Denness, 18, from Chatham Town.
And new owner Don Crosbie told www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk that The Homelands outfit will be making more announcements during this week.
“We have been working hard in the background to bring in three more quality signings,” he said.
“I’m off to deliver contracts for signature. We at the club are bursting to make the announcement but I am sure you all realise how important it is to remain quiet until the signatures are there.
“These players will give us one of the strongest squads in the league.”
Mr Crosbie also revealed that the club will have fourteen players on contract by the time their Ryman League Division One South campaign kick’s off on 18th August.
He said: “There is already six on contract and four more by next Wednesday will make ten.
“By August it will be fourteen so no need to worry about seven-day contracts this year.
“I have just been informed that the last quality signing we have been negotiating for has just agreed to sign this Wednesday - I can’t wait to announce these three new signings.”
Meanwhile, the Nuts & Bolts will be travelling to Kent League side Erith & Belvedere in the preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday 1st September.
Whoever gets through shall face a lucrative trip to Ryman Premier League newcomers Maidstone United two weeks later at Bourne Park, Sittingbourne.
Ashford Town start their FA Carlsberg Trophy campaign in the first qualifying round when Leyton visit The Homelands on Saturday, 20th October.
