Moore impresses in midfield as Fleet bounce back

After losing their nine match unbeaten run in front of the SKY TV cameras at Weymouth in midweek, Gravesend & Northfleet bounced back by beating Cambridge United at Stonebridge Road yesterday.

Striker Charlie MacDonald took his goalscoring tally up to eleven for the season, from the penalty spot, and Sam Sodje netted his second of the season as Liam Daish’s side moved within two points of a play-off berth, in seventh place.

The Fleet have lost just once at home, and welcome Stafford Rangers to Stonebridge Road on Tuesday night,  before travelling to Burton Rovers next Saturday.

Former Cambridge United defender Daish, speaking to the Non League Paper, praised Luke Moore for his impressive display in midfield.

“I thought we were quicker from the first minute,” he said. “We kept our concentration and believed that we were going to score.

“I was worried that after losing at Weymouth - when we put so much into the game, but came away with nothing - that we might have felt a little bit sorry for ourselves.

“But everybody took on board what we wanted to do and it worked wonders.

“Luke Moore was a revelation for us in midfield. He’s got a good footballing brain and stacks of energy.

“I love him to bits. I would always have him around me. He’s different class, always wants to learn and does so much for the team.

“I thought we deserved a break when the penalty came because of the amount of effort, possession and chances on goal we had created.

“I am just glad we got the second goal because if was not a close match. We were easily the better side and different class from the first minute. They are a decent side and have been playing well.”
