Miles tells his side to "Stand up and be counted" - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Tuesday 27th February 2007

Phil Miles demands a positive reaction from his side at Hastings United tonight, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Chatham Town manager saw his side lose 4-0 at home to fellow Ryman League Division One South strugglers Walton Casuals on Saturday, and Miles does not want a repeat performance on the east Sussex coast tonight.

“The boys have to stand up and be counted tonight,” Miles said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk after news that tonight’s game is expected to go ahead following a 2:30pm pitch inspection at the Pilot Field.

“I expressed my feelings to them after the game. I let them know that performance wasn’t good enough by anyone wearing a Chatham Town shirt and I’m hoping tonight we get a reaction.”

Miles will have five reserve team players involved at the Pilot Field tonight against a Hastings United side in third place in the table behind Maidstone United and Dulwich Hamlet.

Bradley King, Sam Phillips, Craig Govey, Tyrone Walker and Dave Botterill are all in the first team squad.

Hamlet’s game with sixth-placed Fleet Town is expected to go ahead at Champion Hill and the south Londoners will be looking to close the gap on the Stones, whose game at Ashford Town was postponed earlier today.

Rob Denness (toe) will undergo a pre-match fitness test but Ross Finn has definitely been ruled out with a sore groin.

“Rob’s toe has given him some pain over the last couple of days, but hopefully he’ll be fit for tonight,” revealed Miles.

And with John Whitehouse expected to have recovered from his groin injury for Kingstonian’s visit to Maidstone Road on Saturday, Mikes keeps faith with Slovakian goalkeeper Miroslav Oravec, who plays his third successive game for the relegation threatened Medway side.
