Thamesmead Town are pleased to announce the signing of central defender Ryan Royston from Ryman League newcomers Maidstone United.

Speaking about his first signing as manager for Thamesmead Town, Keith McMahon told www.thamesmeadtownfc.co.uk "It's a fantastic signing for the club. I wanted to sign a big name as my first addition to the club, and you don't get much bigger than a double winner.

“Ryan was at the club on loan for a couple of months two seasons ago to get fit and he fitted in really well. He's just got a new job that would find travelling hard in the Ryman League.

“He won the League and cup last year so he brings a lot of experience to the side. He is the sort of player that I’m looking for, he can get the ball down and play.

“He gives me a lot of options. He can play centre back, do a holding role in midfield and also he can play up front.

“The signing of Ryan shows the ambition that the club has this year. We really want to take the club forward so his the first of a few signings this year."

McMahon also announced that Anthony Potts has joined his management team as first team coach.

McMahon said: "Pottsie and I go back a long way, we used to play football together as youngsters. We both have the same opinion on how the game should be played.

“Antony has a wealth of experience, playing professional football at Tottenham. He has also played for Tonbridge Angles in the Southern League so he knows what's needed to play at a higher level.

“Pottsie also knows the players very well as he played for Thamesmead a couple of years a seasons ago so he won't have any trouble fitting in.”

The Bayliss Avenue club currently enjoy playing on a perfect playing surface, and the Kent League club are implementing more improvements to their ground.

McMahon said: “Things are starting to take shape now on and off the pitch. The pitch has had a lot of money spent on it again this year and is already looking superb.

“The new turnstiles are in place and the new PA system is being installed next week so things are looking very positive"
