Matata turns down return to Dover

Saturday 30th December 2006

Striker Walid Matata has rejected the chance to return to Crabble - after holding discussions with Dover Athletic this week, writes Justin Allen.

The former Whites star was a fans' favourite at Crabble before joining Folkestone Invicta as part of the deal that brought Jimmy Dryden to the club.

Walid has since left Invicta and joined Kent neighbours Ashford Town recently.

Dover Athletic chairman Jim Parmenter told www.doverathletic.com  : "We were keen on bringing Walid back and met with him this week. But, unfortunately, we couldn't agree personal terms as he is getting paid more money at Ashford than we could afford to pay him here.

"So sadly Walid won't be coming back to Crabble and we move on to look at other targets."
