Margate expected to be without McKimm against local rivals

Friday 29th December 2006

Margate’s tally of two points from a possible six has dropped the Blues down the current form table to fifth, making this second encounter with local rivals Folkestone Invicta even more important, writes Steve Wells.

A win for the Blues would yield five from a possible nine points; arguably the minimum required from the Christmas campaign, and it could take Gate back to the top of the table.

Margate have lost just once in nine games and remain second in the Ryman League Premier Division table on goal difference from Chelmsford City. Most of the Boxing Day results did not work against Gate with just Hampton & Richmond of the top five recording a victory.

Steve McKimm is a major doubt for the game against Folkestone following the injury he picked up at Ramsgate.

Margate assistant manager Mike Flanagan told www.margate-fc.com  : “He’s struggling at the moment with the injury. Obviously we’ll leave it for 48 hours just to see if it settles down but we would say that he may miss Saturday (against Folkestone).”

Lee Protheroe could come back into the starting line-up to partner Jay Saunders in central midfield as cover for McKimm.

Games against Folkestone tend to be entertaining affairs with both sides looking to “play football”.

The Seasiders have been struggling for form of late, picking up just one win (against Worthing) and a draw in their last six league games. Two of the four defeats have seen Invicta concede four goals.

To make matters worse for Folkestone Adam Flanagan, Paul Jones, Luke Howell and Ellis Remy (recently returned to the club after being released a few weeks ago) are all doubtful through injury.

But former Gate players Paul Lamb, Kola Okikiolu and Jimmy Corbett all look set to play some part in the game.
