Margate to go 3G: Chariman Alistair Bayliss: These type of pitches are becoming more familiar at this level and I think for clubs looking to grow this is the type of model that will become even more popular

Thursday 25th May 2017

MARGATE have confirmed that a new full sized 3G pitch is to be installed at Hartsdown Park this summer ahead of the relegated club’s Isthmian Premier League campaign.

Work will begin at Hartsdown Park on Thursday 1 June and works are expected to take between 8-10 weeks and are using the same company that have installed similar pitches at Maidstone United, Eastbourne Borough and Sutton United.

The decision was made by the new owners to install an all-weather pitch as part of their plans to improve facilities at Hartsdown Park.

The new pitch will also allow the club to hire out the facility for up to 50 hours a week, which will enable the club to grow financially with a sensible business module moving forward.

Margate chairman Alistair Bayliss told www.margate-fc.co.uk: “This is a massive commitment from the new owners that have demonstrated in their first few weeks in charge that they are serious about moving the club forward as a project.

“The installation of a new 3G surface will be the start of this club growing in stature both in football terms, financially and the local community.

“Without going into too much detail, this is just the first part of the plans. It is a hugely exciting time for the club and more importantly, the local area.

“I genuinely now hope people will realise how important this club will be to the community and get involved.”

National League club Bromley are in the process of laying an artificial pitch at Hayes Lane, while Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division side Sevenoaks Town will also be playing on a 3G pitch at their Greatness Park ground next season.

Mr Bayliss added: “These type of pitches are becoming more familiar at this level and I think for clubs looking to grow this is the type of model that will become even more popular.”

Supporters can come to Hartsdown Park on Tuesday 30 May and Wednesday 31 May to make a donation and take away a square of turf.

Supporters are invited to come along between 10:00-17:00 to pick some turf and take it for memorabilia.  Supporters are asked to make a donation while at the ground.
