Margate appoint Steve Brown and Mike Sandmann as joint-managers

Monday 21st May 2018

MARGATE have appointed Steve Brown and Mike Sandmann as joint-managers.

The pair will take joint-charge over first team affairs following the departure of Steven Watt, who has since returned to Maidstone United to become Jay Saunders’ assistant.

Timmy Warden, who was under 23’s assistant manager last season, will be joining the set-up as fitness coach.

“The pair’s hard work can be seen already with the retained commitment of influential players, besides the signing of Dartford midfielder Alex Brown at the weekend,” a club statement, which was published on www.margate-fc.co.uk.

“Both are working tirelessly to build on the foundations at the club and attract new faces to join Hartsdown Park for the upcoming campaign.

“Steve Brown believes taking the team forward as joint-managers will ensure hard work undertaken last season to stabilise the set-up at The Gate can continue.”

Brown said: “The club asked us to continue the project we started and after discussions between ourselves, it was clear that teaming up as joint-managers would be the best outcome to take the club forward.”

“Things are starting to shape up nicely in terms of signings and we are hoping to consolidate with a good squad blended with experienced and youth players.”

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s question and answer session, where he will be present to answer supporters, Sandmann added: “The Margate fans have been fantastic to us both since we arrived and we know they will continue to show their support and welcome the new players that come to the club.

“We hope supporters see even more positive news over the next few weeks. Steve and I are both on the phone a lot discussing possibilities with a number of people.

“We are confident we can draw together a good group, work hard and look forward to the pre-season schedule.”

Margate finished in seventh-place in the Bostik Premier Division table last season, collecting 77 points from their 46 games, missing out on the play-offs by just a couple of points.
