Margate boss Steve Watt signs new deal until 2018: I want to build the team the fans can be proud of

MARGATE have confirmed that their manager Steve Watt and his assistant manager Steve Brown have extended their stay at Hartsdown Park for next season.

The pair have signed new contracts on Wednesday until May 2018 as they prepare for nine big games, which will determine what division Margate play in next season.

After Saturday’s 2-0 win over Gosport Borough in Watt’s fourth game in charge, Margate sit 11 points adrift of safety with nine games to go in their Vanarama National League South campaign.

Chairman Alistair Bayliss thinks now is the right time to secure their services heading into next season.

“I’m absolutely delighted that both Steven Watt and Steve Brown have signed new deals until the end of the 2017-18 season, the Scotsman told www.margate-fc.co.uk.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone and as a club we can really push on now.”

Watt was pleased to extend his stay at Hartsdown Park beyond this summer.

“I am delighted to have extended my stay here alongside Steve Brown and Mike Sandmann and we look forward to building a team that the fans, club and town can be proud of,” said Watt, in the club statement.

“No matter what division we find ourselves in next season I want to build a team that will be competitive.”

Bottom-of-the-table Margate have collected 20 points from their 33 league games and they travel to eleventh-placed Hemel Hempstead Town on Saturday and then to third-placed Dartford next Tuesday.
