Margate part company with Reece Prestedge after seven match winless streak
MARGATE chairman Ricky Owen has parted company with manager Recce Prestedge today.
The Blues extended their winless run to seven games in all competitions after losing 2-0 away to Enfield Town yesterday.
Margate are in the bottom six in the Isthmian League Premier Division table with 19 points (five wins, four draws and nine defeats) and are just a point clear of the relegation zone.
“This has been a very difficult conversation as there is no question as to how much Reece loves this football club,” said Owen in a statement.
“Not just as his time as a player here, Reece showed his genuine affection for the club by taking charge at a very difficult time last year.
“Winning the Kent Senior Cup in May was a highlight of this club’s recent past and Reece will be forever remembered for bringing that joy to Hartsdown Park.
“We wish Reece well for his future career.”
The club has confirmed that Ben Greenhalgh and Elliott Leveson will take charge of the team on Tuesday for the Velocity Cup Third Round trip to Brighton to play ninth-placed league rivals Whitehawk.
A club statement added: “Everyone at Margate FC would like to thank Reece for his efforts since becoming permanent manager in April where he guided us to lift the Kent Senior Cup at Priestfield back in May, after having taken interim charge in December 2022.
“Despite a positive start to the season, recent results, combined with our current league position has led us to this outcome.
“The search for a new manager has begun and we will update supporters with more information when possible.”
