Alex Flisher set to leave Maidstone United after eight years

Thursday 25th May 2017

ALEX FLISHER is leaving Maidstone United after eight years at the club.

The Vanarama National League club will be training three months a week rather than two evenings from July and Flisher is unable to make the transition due to work and personal commitments.

Flisher’s departure will end a long association with his home town club.  Before making his first team debut in 2009, he played for the reserves and under 18s.

He made 275 first team appearances for the club, picking up numerous League and Cup honours and became renowned for his trademark long throws.

Maidstone United boss Jay Saunders told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk: “It’s been a pleasure to have him here at the club and I can only wish them well in his future career.

“Like everyone connected with the club, I’d have loved to have seen him in a Stones shirt next season but I respect his decision to put his family first – that’s the way it should be.”

Bill Williams, the club’s chief executive, added: “Alex has been a great servant to the club and will be sorely missed.  We thank him for all he’s done for his home town team and wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

The club added: “As a contracted player, Alex will be made available for transfer.”
