Scott Porter leaves Lydd Town in shock as he steps down as manager on the eve of the new season

Thursday 25th July 2024

LYDD TOWN’S preparations for their Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division campaign were hit following the resignation of manager Scott Porter yesterday.

Porter took the helm on 23 January and the club completed their maiden campaign in the ninth-tier in tenth-place in the table, having picked up 64 points (19 wins, seven draws and 14 defeats) from their 40 league games.

“It is with regret to inform that yesterday the committee of Lydd Town FC reluctantly accepted the resignation of the first team manager, Scott Porter,” said a club statement.

“Scott had informed the club of his decision that he and his back-room staff are stepping down, meaning that we find ourselves looking for a new manager, with only a few days until the new season starts.

“We would like to put on record our thanks to Scott and the rest of his back-room team and wish him the best of luck with his future.

“As this has come as quite a shock to us, and with the season only days away, we will not be jumping into any rash appointments, and we will take stock of things before deciding the way the club will move forward.

“We have a strong group of senior players and coaching staff who will hold the reins for the time being.  Should the need arise, we will advertise the position in due course.”

Porter took charge of 18 games, where the Lydders claimed eight wins, four draws and six defeats.

The Lydders kick-off their second Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division campaign with a trip to VCD Athletic on Saturday.

Ross Baker and Danny Joy's side finished in 12th place in the table last season, picking up 50 points (13 wins, 11 draws and 16 defeats).

Mikey Doyle, who guided the club out of the First Division, stepped down from the manager’s role on the eve of last season and was replaced by James Rogers and Tom Wynter on 27 July 2023.
