Lydd Town boss Liam Smith: I’m crying out to the lads for some consistency!

Friday 08th December 2017

LYDD TOWN boss Liam Smith believes his side froze against Croydon in the Southern Counties East Football League Challenge Cup Second Round in midweek.

Smith’s men led through Tim Sims’ fourteenth goal of the season before ten-man Croydon sealed progression by scoring four goals during the second half.

Smith said: “We were leading 1-0, they had a man sent-off and seemed to make us freeze and galvanise them – we ended up losing 4-1!

“Although we conceded poor gaols and I’m disappointed that we lost, it was a free-hit for us as Croydon are playing in a higher division and doing very well in it.”

Lydd Town sit in the top eight in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division and tomorrow they host a Bridon Ropes side that are a couple of places higher.

“They are our bogey side over the years but we’re hoping to get the three points, which allows us to climb the table so a break away mini-league doesn’t happen,” said Smith, whose side have claimed 26 points from 19 games.

“Our league position speaks for itself, a team that scores plenty of goals but is not consistent enough! I’m crying out to the lads for some consistency!

“We have no game next Saturday and then we have another trip to Sutton before Christmas.

“We are unbeaten in two league games, drawing with Punjab and beating Kent Football United and I’m hoping we can go on a good run.  We are more than good enough to do so!

“I feel if we can be more positive as a group we will find that consistency that I am craving for.”
