We are slowly moving in the right direction, says Lydd Town boss Dave Smith

Saturday 19th September 2015

LYDD TOWN boss Dave Smith hopes his side gets back to winning ways after suffering their first league defeat of the season.

The Lydders went down to a 3-2 defeat to Dartford-based Kent Football United in the Kent Invicta League last weekend and welcome fourth-from-bottom Lewisham Borough in the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy First Round today.

“We need to get last week’s poor performance against Kent Football United out of our system, which was very disappointing after we have had a solid start to the season,” said Smith.

“In all our games we have only played in fits and starts but we are moving slowly in the right direction.

“Our squad has been hit by a series of injuries but that can be the same for all teams.

“We are looking to add more players but we will only take players that commit to the club and not the ones who just demand money.”

Lydd are sitting in fourth-place in the table on 15 points from six games, sitting five points adrift of leaders Gravesham Borough, but with four games in hand.

Smith says his club has a big October ahead.

“It’s a long season and it’s still early but you can already see who the top sides will be and with the recent fixtures coming out it looks like we will be playing them all in October, so after these games we will see where we are.”
