Lordswood begin search for new boss as Jason Lillis steps down at end of season

LORDSWOOD have confirmed that they are searching for a new manager after Jason Lillis announced that he will be stepping down at the end of the season.



Lillis, 45, who played for Gillingham and Maidstone United earlier on in his career, has given the Kent League club their best ever season, reaching the fourth round of The FA Carlsberg Vase, when they went out to a Spennymoor Town side that will face Tunbridge Wells in the Wembley Final on 4 May, and they will face Martin Larkin’s side in the Kent Senior Trophy Final at Tonbridge Angels’ Longmead Stadium on 14 April.

The Medway outfit published a statement on their club website on Wednesday and are inviting applications for Lillis’ replacement.

“Jason will be leaving Lordswood at the end of the season as he is presently considering a couple of offers to coach at a higher level.

“He will not be staying in the Kent League and will certainly not be moving sideways.  He has greater aspirations and sees this as the right time to make a move in order to further his career.

“Three years ago we asked Jason to help us at probably the worst stage in the history of the club and he has paid us back in full.

“So far, he has given us the best and most enjoyable season that the club has ever had, having progressed further than even before in the FA Vase and on 14 April we are in the final of the Kent Senior Trophy, our first ever senior final.

“We are presently sitting seventh in the league with a good chance of finishing in our highest position since joining the Kent League.

“Jason has effectively given us back our club, bringing a feeling of unity and has made us a team to fear and respect on the pitch and for that we will be eternally grateful.

“Jason will remain with us until the end of the season and we thank him for the great job and memories he has given us. 

“We wish him and his family all the very best for the future, there will always be a place for the Lillis family at Lordswood.

“We wish to continue the legacy that Jason leaves us and the committee will shortly be meeting with the team to discuss our aspirations for next season and beyond and to appoint a new manager in good time for the pre-season.”
