The league table is extremely tight and one or two wins or losses can change anything, says Lordswood boss Richard Styles

LORDSWOOD boss Richard Styles says he’s expecting a tough game against promotion chasing Beckenham Town tomorrow.

Jason Huntley’s side arrive in Medway sitting in second-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 42 points in the bag from their 20 league outings.

They are one point behind leaders Sevenoaks Town, who have two games in hand, while Lordswood are in ninth-place in the table and are only eight points adrift of the leaders.

“We know the Beckenham game is going to be tough and one that we'll have to be at our best,” said Styles.

“We haven't played for two weeks due to having no fixture last week but in fairness it probably would’ve been called off anyway even if we had a scheduled game.

“The times we've been together working at training has been very good, the boys are working hard and there's a good atmosphere in the dressing room and around the club.

“Last game we beat Chatham 2-1 which was very pleasing but it feels like a long time ago and we focus on Saturday now.

“Beckenham were down with us last season fighting for our lives in a relegation battle.  It's good to see how they've improved and are in different position at the other end of the league.

“Billy Walton, the Beckenham assistant manager, is an ex manager of mine who I played under at Fisher for a spell and someone I respect massively.  He also gave me some big advice after our away game last season which is something I'll never forget. I'm really pleased to see him doing so well at Beckenham, it doesn't surprise me.

“The league table is extremely tight and one or two wins or losses can change anything so we just need to keep working hard and doing it in games to get the rewards.

“Our squad is at full strength and we have injuries. I am very pleased with the squad I have in place as I believe it's very strong, but players need to keep their shirts now.”

Styles, meanwhile, has today enticed Joe Kane back to the club from Bostik South Ramsgate.
