We aim to finish the season in a positive league position, develop our young crop of players but most importantly change the perception of the club, says Lewisham Borough boss Justin Fevrier

Friday 22nd February 2019

LEWISHAM BOROUGH manager Justin Fevrier says the club deserve to be successful.

Fevrier has turned fortunes around at the Ladywell Arena this season and the club sit in eleventh-place in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table with 26 points on the board from their 24 league outings.

Lewisham Borough have won just one of their five games in 2019 and went down to a 3-1 home defeat to league leaders Welling Town last weekend.

“The Welling Town game was an interesting fixture,” admitted Fevrier.

“Most would be satisfied with the current league positioning considering the history, but we’re not!

“We’ve had a stuttering start to the New Year.  We are very conscious of it and we work tirelessly on ways to improve us.”

Fevrier takes his side to Hextable tomorrow to play FC Elmstead.  Ennio Gonnella takes charge of their opponents for the first time with the club sitting in the bottom five in the table only five points adrift of the bottom.

“This would be our third time playing Elmstead this season with the last fixture being a 5-0 home win to Lewisham,” said Fevrier.

“We expect a completely different game so we will need to be prepared for everything.

“Congratulations to Ennio on the job, I’m sure he will do a great job at a great club but hopefully starting from next week!”

Lewisham Borough are only four points adrift of tenants Forest Hill Park, who are in eighth-place in the table but Lee Roots’ men do have four games in hand.

“We have also set ourselves a target of wins to reach,” revealed Fevrier.

“We see ourselves as a top eight team in this league minimum with the squad of lads that we’ve got.

“Even though we’ve let it slip a bit, the focus remains the same, take it game-by-game and see where we get to.

“We want to get results whilst developing the young players and we still have to play most of the top eight before the season is up too.

“Former Cystal Palace forward Ashley Paul Robinson has joined us from (Bostik South East Division side) Whyteleafe on a dual-registration until the end of the season as well as Adam Aziz, who has recently returned to Whyteleafe from a trial with Bury.  Right-back Raheem Chentouf has joined Lamarl Hubbard from Welling Town.”

Tashan Adeyinka and Kelvin Adjei are both injured but Adam Thompson returns from a holiday.

“We aim to finish the season in a positive league position, develop our young crop of players but most importantly change the perception of the club to the league, other teams and fans because Lewisham is a huge borough and deserves to be a successful club.”
