Lewes part company with manager Hugo Langton by mutual consent after 13 months in charge at The Dripping Pan

Thursday 25th March 2021

LEWES have parted company with their first-team manager Hugo Langton by mutual consent.

The Dripping Pan, East Sussex based outfit were in eighteenth-place (bottom five) in the Isthmian League Premier Division table with two wins and two losses from their eight league games before the campaign was curtailed due to the coronavirus health pandemic.

Chairman Stuart Fuller said in a statement: “The board would like to place on record its appreciation for the hard work Hugo has put into the role.

“The pandemic has presented significant challenges to the club that Hugo handled with integrity, diligence and professionalism.

“Hugo answered the call when we needed help in February 2020 and has worked diligently behind the scenes for the club in the last 12 months, not just on first-team management duties but helping in many other aspects.

“I’ve known Hugo for well over a decade and know that his skills and expertise in the game will be put to good use in the future.

“We wish Hugo all the best of luck in his next position and future endeavours.

“An announcement will be made on the search for a new manager in due course.”

Langton, who lives in Tonbridge, Kent, added: “It’s been an unusual time for us all in the last 12 months.

“I came in to help in the short-term and ended up staying on longer, especially to help the club through the pandemic.

“Whilst we haven’t seen much action on the pitch, I know I leave behind a clearer pathway for young players, which is important to this club.

“I also know I’ve helped and supported everyone to the best of my ability during these tough times.

“I have always been touched by the kindness of every Lewes fan I have met along the way and your support and encouragement will never be forgotten, so thank you.

“I’d like firstly to thank my staff (physio) Kate Joynes and (goalkeeper coach) John McCrae for all their top support, they have done an amazing job.  And, also to all the lads who played for me, who gave me everything they could, many of whom will eventually go onto higher things.

“Thank you to Stuart Fuller for all his support and for asking me to help when help was needed – I wish everyone at the club a successful future.”
