Let's get into those play-off's, urges Pennock - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Wednesday 04th April 2007
Welling United boss Adrian Pennock has issued a rallying cry to ALL Welling United – and Dartford – fans to cheer his side to a vital victory tonight, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Wings’ travelling roadshow parks at Dartford’s stunning £6.5m Princes Park Stadium tonight, against fifth placed Salisbury City.

Results have gone for Pennock’s promotion chasing men this week, and they can leapfrog over tonight’s opponents to claim that final play-off berth with a win tonight.

“It’s a massive game for us,” he said just hours before tonight’s Salisbury showdown EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk

“Braintree lost on Monday 3-0 to Fisher and last night Newport drew with Bishop’s Stortford (and) Eastbourne drew so it’s a good opportunity for us to get back in there.

“It will be a difficult game because they’re doing very well so it will be nice for us to get three points tonight.”

Tonight’s clash at Princes Park will be the Wing’s third home venue this season, having also hired Gravesend & Northfleet’s Stonebridge Road ground as Park View Road cannot stage night games.

“We just want all Welling supporters to bring their mates and everybody to get behind the players, because we need all the vocal support – we need a 12th man,” urged Pennock.

“If we played like we did on Saturday (a goal-less draw with Lewes at Park View Road), we’re still in the running to get into the play-off’s.”

But Pennock warns playing away from Park View Road and their fixture back-log may harm their play-off hopes.

“That’s the problem,” he said.  “It’s a big problem because we want to play at home, at Welling.

“It’s like another away game for us and the players know it’s a big game – let’s hope they respond.

“We have been up against it playing so many games but we’ve played four games in a week and next week, we’ve got four games.

“The home games we’ve been playing away but if we hang in there in the next week or so, we’ve got a great opportunity.”
