Kids can watch Fleet for FREE

Thursday 22nd March 2007
Kids can watch Nationwide Conference football in Kent for NOTHING if they go with one of their parents on Friday night, writes Stephen McCartney.

Gravesend & Northfleet welcome Aldershot Town to Stonebridge Road on Friday night and each full paying adult (paying £12) will be able to bring TWO children to the game for NOTHING.

The Fleet have enjoyed a successful time on the pitch during the course of the season despite slipping down to eighth place – but the north Kent club are the EIGHTH worst supported club in non-league’s top division.

Despite the club’s lofty position in the table they average 1,179 and have broken the 2,000 mark just once in the league, when then leaders Oxford United were beaten 1-0 in front of 2,019.

But chairman Mr Jason Botley told the club’s website the club are doing everything they possibly can to improve attendances at Stonebridge Road – starting on Friday night.

He told www.gnfc.co.uk   :  “We want to do everything we can to attract new young fans to Stonebridge Road.

“They create a great atmosphere in the ground and are the supporters of tomorrow.

“Friday night’s game with Aldershot promises to be a cracker, and with no school to worry about the following day, we hope parents will bring their youngsters along to the game.

”It can be expensive for parents to take their children to entertainment and sporting events, so we are sure there will be many fans who will take advantage of free admission for youngsters.”

Meanwhile, on the pitch, manager Liam Daish has finally completed the signing of Chukki Eribienne on loan until the end of the season.

Eribienne, 26, left Weymouth in January to sign for fellow Conference rivals Grays Athletic but he has not been able to become a regular in Essex.

“I am pleased to have signed Chukki,” Daish told www.gnfc.co.uk

“He was Weymouth’s joint top-scorer last season and will bring some physicality to our side.

“I tried to sign him in January, but because there was some uncertainty about Weymouth’s future the transfer was not completed.”

The London born player has previously played for Havant & Waterlooville, AFC Bournemouth and Coventry City and goes into the Fleet squad against the Shots on Friday night.

And Gravesend & Northfleet fans who buy their season tickets for next season before 7th April will be able to watch their team at home for the same prices as the current season.

Mr Botley added: “The price freeze is part of a continuing initiative to boost attendances at Stonebridge Road.

“We have done exceptionally well this season and we hope this move will not only attract more fans to buy what is a good value for money season ticket, but it is also a way to say thank you to the supporters who purchased season tickets for the current season.”
