It should be a cracking game between two very good sides hoping to keep pressure on Rusthall and Glebe, says Kent Football United boss Ennio Gonnella

KENT FOOTBALL UNITED boss Ennio Gonnella says he wants his side to carry on hanging on the coattails of the top-two sides.

The Dartford based outfit are in third-place in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table with 50 points from their 23 games.

Rusthall remain at the summit with 57 points from their 24 league games, while Glebe are next with 56 points from their 22 league outings.

Kent Football United do not currently have floodlighting at their ground but Gonnella wants to mount a charge towards the title.

Reflecting on their 5-2 home win over ninth-placed Lydd Town last Saturday, Gonnella said: “We didn’t play very well. The two goals conceded were either a silly mistake or poor defending from the whole team.

“However, we scored five cracking goals so coming away with three points from a tough side like Lydd and not playing great can only be seen as a good win.”

Tomorrow’s opponents are in fourth-place and Kris Browning’s K Sports have collected the same number of points from the same number of games as KFU.

“We have played these once before and they are a good side,” said Gonnella.

“We go into tomorrow with five injuries but no different from the last couple of weeks. It should be a cracking game between two very good sides hoping to keep pressure on Rusthall and Glebe.”

Browning, told his club’s Twitter feed, “Saturday is a big game, but we’ll go in with no pressure on us.  We’ve massively over achieved already this season.

“There’s a lot of teams paying lots of money and we don’t pay anything. We both want to close the gap on Rusthall and Glebe but there is no pressure on K Sports if we don’t.

“Kent Football are a very good side, they will be different to when we previously played them as they have brought in some high-profile players since our last game and they’ll be expected to deliver.

“We’ll go into the game as we always do.  The lads have prepared well and we’re all looking forward to the game and we’ll play without pressure.”
